Job Description:
The ARM Group is hiring for a Full-Time Production Shift Supervisor (MDF Plant) for one of our leading clients in Barnwell, SC.
Rotating Schedule: 12 Hours Per Shift, 14 Shifts In 28 Days, Days, Nights, And Weekends.
Purpose of the job:
- The Production Shift Supervisor directs the activities, priorities, and team members of the assigned operations shift and reliably manages the normal operations/start-up sequences/shut-down processes for all areas of MDF Plant production (Press Operations, Energy Plant/Dryer Operations, Refiner Operations, Resin Operations, Finishing (sanding/sawing/inventory) Operations, etc.).
- This position will ensure a high level of consistent and reliable MDF production following quality standards and production metrics while continuously monitoring the status and operating conditions of the entire MDF Plant.
- The Production Shift Supervisor will facilitate the skills development and cross-training of shift team members and ensure that shift production plans align with plant maintenance priorities and schedule requirements.
- This position also has shift oversight responsibility for any plant operational emergency, including potential fire threats.
Key Responsibilities:
Management Tasks:
- Work as a member of the MDF Plant Management Team.
- Promote and enforce company safety requirements.
- Selection and development of skilled personnel.
- Management and daily direction of shift personnel.
- Conduct annual performance appraisals.
- Monitor shift performance in all plant operational areas.
- Manage housekeeping expectations for all work areas.
- Manage control room environment and professional conduct of shift team members.
- Ensures consistency in approach with Shift Supervisor counterparts.
- Meet production and quality metrics.
- Other assignments at the discretion of the MDF Plant Manager.
Professional Tasks:
- Monitor and maintain the training plan for assigned shift team members.
- Conducts daily activities in a manner that promotes plant productivity and reliability.
- Creates a ‘continuous improvement’ culture within the assigned shift.
- Ensure a professional, collaborative, and productive relationship with the MDF Plant Technologist.

Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college (or equivalent work experience).
- A minimum of 2 years of plant operations supervisory experience or 3 years of plant experience as an operator in a manufacturing/industrial environment (preferably in an MDF plant).
- Strong leadership and social skills, with an even temperament.
Education and specialized skills profile:
- Business-related training.
- Practical experience and knowledge of SAP.
- Personal computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs.
- Availability to work 12-hour rotating shift schedules, overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, plus respond to occasional off-hours callouts to ensure plant reliability of operations.
- A sense of urgency, a capacity for accurate decisions, and the ability to exercise sound judgment in a demanding work environment.

Mobility and Physical Requirement Profile:
- Work location is Barnwell, SC, and operates in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to travel internationally with 2-3 weeks’ notice.
- Travel for up to 1 week per year.
- Be expected to stand for a full shift.
- Employees will be required to perform climbing stairs, walking, squatting, kneeling, or driving lift truck duties at variable frequencies.
- There is occasional lifting that may require handling of components that can weigh up to 50 lbs.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and walk and talk or hear; use hands and fingers, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, temperature extremes, combustible dust fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
- The schedule is normally day shift Monday through Friday.
- Call-ins are required, as necessary.
- Schedules will change based on rebuild schedules.

- Internal: Department Managers (Operations and Maintenance), Process Technicians, Quality Department, MDF and Flooring Plant Managers, and Maintenance.
- External: Vendors, Suppliers, Service Contractors, and other Client’s Plants.
