Job Description:
The ARM GROUP is hiring MDF Assistant Operator for an industry-leading client in Barnwell, SC
Shifts: 12-hour rotating shift schedule (6:45 AM – 7:00 PM and 6:45 PM – 7:00 AM), including frequent weekends
Hourly Pay: – $23.50 – $26.00/Hour
Role:
The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, an understanding of production processes, and the ability to troubleshoot and analyze plant operating systems. This role requires a commitment to workplace safety, efficiency, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with quality control testing of hot board mechanical properties.
- Exhibit strong mechanical, system, and process interaction skills.
- Support production scheduling and ensure operational efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and analyze plant operating systems to improve performance.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards at all times.
- Conduct daily tasks in a manner that promotes plant reliability and productivity.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Perform basic calculations and measurements related to productivity and efficiency.
- Uphold and enforce all company safety requirements and expectations.
- Demonstrate leadership in control room culture and operational discipline.
Professional Experience & Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Prior MDF experience is not required, but forklift operation and manufacturing experience are preferred.
- Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining quality and quantity standards.
- Willingness to receive training for entry-level lift truck operations and other cross-training opportunities.
- Competence in basic math calculations, including addition and subtraction.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and achieve established goals.
Education & Skills Requirements:
- High school diploma/GED required; a college degree is preferred.
- Strong computer and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) skills required for operating automated equipment and systems.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret P&IDs, operating manuals, vendor drawings, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, sense of duty, and ability to mentor and cross-train team members.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to make accurate decisions quickly and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced work environment.
- Availability to work rotating shift schedules, overtime, nights, holidays, and weekends, as well as respond to occasional off-hours call-outs to ensure plant reliability.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Exposure to loud noise levels exceeding 87 decibels.
- Ability to work in extreme hot temperatures, which can exceed 110°F on the shop floor.
- Work may involve exposure to high/low temperatures, sun, rain, and confined spaces.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision while multitasking in a demanding environment.
- Strong communication skills to make quick decisions and provide clear, consistent instructions.
- While English is preferred for verbal and written communication, diversity of languages is valued within the department.
Mobility & Physical Demands:
- Work is conducted in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to stand for the entire shift and perform physical tasks, including climbing stairs, walking, squatting, kneeling, and operating a lift truck.
- Occasional lifting of components up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent operation of HMI systems, radio communication, and extensive walking throughout a 12-hour shift.
