Fire Safety Specialist / Fire-Fighter

Job Description:

The ARM Group is looking to hire a Full-Time – Fire Safety Specialist for one of our leading customers in Barnwell, SC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures all fire/spark detection and suppression equipment is in the ready state and compliant.
  • Monitors, creates and performs the pm schedule for fire/spark detection & suppression equipment to ensure maintenance and system tests are conducted on time according to regulatory compliance.
  • Complete all fire equipment and fire system PMs and develop job plans according to industry best practices and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Equipment maintenance oversight: Ensure that fire safety equipment, such as extinguishers, alarms, fire pumps, and sprinklers are regularly inspected, and evaluated, and repairs completed immediately.
  • Assists plant-wide resources in the setting of housekeeping standards.
  • Evaluates and verifies system functional performance including outputs and alarms. Testing (and the frequency of any such testing) to be conducted with any applicable state, federal, or equipment vendor standards.
  • Interact with vendors and alarm monitoring companies as needed for system troubleshooting and improvements.
  • Works with personnel to ensure the necessary spare parts are stocked.
  • Provides support for scheduling and conducting fire drills and emergency evacuation drills by the prescribed ISO expectations.
  • Under the direction of the Health and Safety Manager, may recommend to maintenance of system piping that requires heat tracing due to climate in the region.
  • Assists with the delivery of training to all staff on how the detection and fire suppression systems work and the hazards of wood dust and methods for fire prevention.
  • Along with the Health and Safety Manager, is liaison with the local fire department.
  • Collaboration with emergency services to ensure effective communication and coordination during fire drills and real emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate records of fire safety inspections, training sessions, incidents, and compliance activities, and prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Health and Safety Manager.
  • Continuous Improvement by analyzing data related to fire incidents and safety trends and recommending improvements to enhance fire safety protocols and training programs.

Professional Experience:

  • Previous experience with GPB fire safety systems is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with fixed and non-fixed fire suppression systems in an industrial environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with firefighting and fire behavior are desirable.
  • Relevant qualification and experience in an Emergency Services Discipline at the level of Veteran Fire Fighter or equivalent

Education and specialized skills profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • OSHA certification preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and strong organizational skills.

Environment and Behavioral profile:

  • Candidate will be exposed to loud noise that may exceed 87 decibels.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and walk and talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, temperature extremes, combustible dust fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high in specific areas.
  • Candidate must have the ability to multitask in a demanding environment.

Linguistic Profile:

  • The Client embraces the diversity of languages, but most, if not all, communication verbal and written is preferred in English to successfully complete the appropriate scope of work.
  • Proficiency in German would enable interaction with another specialist in the Client Group.

  • The work location is Barnwell, SC, and operates in a manufacturing environment.
  • There is occasional lifting that may require handling of components.
